FAQs

Will my pet tell me when it's time?

Often times, a pet will not tell you when it’s time. Please do not wait for a “sign,” or you may end up prolonging your pet’s suffering waiting for a sign that never comes. Or, you may end up feeling guilty that you made your decision too soon, because that sign never came. If you need assistance navigating this difficult decision, please refer to “How Do I Know When It’s Time?

Should I be present during the euthanasia?

This is a personal decision and there is no right or wrong choice. Some people want to be present during their pet’s final moments, to comfort them and be with them until the very end. Some would rather not be present, because they would rather remember their pet’s best moments, not what they were like as they were passing. Sometimes having those images in their mind is too much to bear.

If you choose not to be present for the euthanasia, we will simply have you step out of the room for a few moments. After your pet has passed away, you will have the option to say one last goodbye. If you would prefer not to see your pet at all after they have passed, we can simply take your pet into our care and call you back into the room after your pet has been moved out of the room.

Where will be the euthanasia be performed?

You can choose your preferred location. It can be on your pet’s bed, on your own bed, at your pet’s favorite spot in the house, or outside in the yard under the shade of your pet’s favorite tree. We can make almost any location work.

What happens after the euthanasia?

After the euthanasia has been performed and we have confirmed that your pet has passed peacefully, you will have time to grieve and say goodbye to your pet. You may take as much time as you need. When you are ready, we will then take your pet into my care and we will handle all of the aftercare arrangements. You will have the option of burial or cremation of your pet—for further details, please see aftercare.
