What to Expect
Here’s a step-by-step outline of the in-home euthanasia service we offer, to give you as complete a picture as possible of what we can do to help you, your family and your furry best friend through a very difficult time.
If you need additional information, or would like to discuss your options with us in more detail, please don’t hesitate to call us at (858) 848-PAWS (7297).
First:
When we arrive, we will greet your family and your pet and make sure that they’re comfortable with us. We want your pet’s last moments to be as peaceful as possible.
Second:
To ensure a tranquil experience, we will administer a sedative to relax your pet, and relieve any anxiety or pain. Your pet will fall into a deep and gentle sleep with you right by their side. You will then be given as much time as you need to spend with your pet before we proceed.
Third:
When you’re ready, we will administer a solution that will stop the heart, which generally happens within a few minutes. The solution will stop any and all brain activity before it stops the heart, so you can be assured that your pet will only feel like they’re falling into a deep sleep. It’s a pain-free process.
Fourth:
After a few moments, we will listen to your pet’s heart and let you know when they have passed away. You may then spend as much time in private with your pet as you need.
Finally…
When you’re ready, we will take your pet into our care (see aftercare). A clay paw print or lock of hair can be clipped to help you remember your best friend.
